No, we do not. We operate a full-service private practice clinic with leading clinical and administrative staff, along with stringent clinic policy regarding infection control, which enables us to offer patients a high quality clinical experience. This service is not possible to run on a Bulk-Billing model. Therefore, there are reasonable out-of-pocket expense associated with most consultations and procedures.

We recommend you to have a valid referral before seeing Dr Huang. This will allow you to access Medicare rebate for your consultations, certain MBS procedures, treatments including IVF and IUI, as well as any investigations and tests that Dr Huang orders for you, if you are eligible for Medicare. This will decrease your out-of-pocket expenses. You can look up services subsidized by Medicare here.

It is also advisable to have a regular doctor for the ongoing care of your general health and to keep records of your general health history. This is usually your general practitioner, (GP). By providing a referral from your GP, Dr Huang can keep your GP updated on your progress and send records of your results from your gynaecological care. Referral from your GP will stay valid for 12 months.

You can also see Dr Huang with a referral from a specialist doctor, which will stay valid for 3 months.

In-treatment tracking ultrasound scans are still done in Dr Huang’s East Melbourne clinic. Egg collections will be done in Epworth Freemasons Hospital in East Melbourne. IUI and Embryo transfers will be done at Genea Melbourne City laboratory in North Melbourne.

Your biological items will remain safely frozen at Melbourne IVF.
If you wish to continue your fertility treatment with Dr Huang at Genea, they can help facilitate transferring your medical records from Melbourne IVF as well as transporting any biological items to Genea Melbourne City.
The transport timeline can be variable, depending on Melbourne IVF laboratory work load. Due to high volume of transitioning patients transporting their biological items, we anticipate it may take them longer to complete your transport (up to 8 weeks) in the short term. Therefore, we suggest initiating the transport request as soon as you have made your decision.
If you decide to continue your treatment through Melbourne IVF, you will need to see another doctor at Melbourne IVF. To facilitate your transfer of care, please note you have access to all correspondences written by Dr Huang as well as all your pathology and imaging reports in your Patient Portal. You can download your records from your Patient Portal and give to your new doctor. All your past fertility treatment details are stored in the Melbourne IVF database, so your new doctor will be aware of your treatment history.

Both Genea and Melbourne IVF are well established laboratories with over 30 years of experience, and they both routinely transport biological items on a weekly basis. We cannot say there is no risk in transferring embryos, just as we cannot say there is no risk in storing embryos. However, everything is done to minimise risks. Throughout the process, the embryos remain in their frozen state. Movement of embryos between laboratories both locally, interstate and overseas is common. If you wish to find out more, you can discuss with Genea in greater detail as they would be facilitating organising the transfer.
If you are a Medicare card holder and want to claim the Medicare rebate, you will require a valid referral from either a GP or another Specialist to entitle you to claim your Medicare rebate.
Patients who do not have a Medicare card, do not want to claim the Medicare rebate, or international patients do not require a referral to attend our practice and will be billed per our standard rates.

GP referrals are valid for 12-months and referrals from other Specialist are valid for 3-months.

Yes, you can, as long as you have not used this referral to see another specialist already. You can use a referral that is made out to a different specialist of the same specialty/vocation (eg: another gynaecologist or fertility specialist). See here for more information from Services Australia.

You can see Dr Huang regardless of your private health fund status. Depending on the health fund and your individual health cover, will determine what procedures and servicecs you can apply for private health fund rebate. Our rooms charge the same standard fee regardless of your private health fund status and you can access your clinic receipts and invoices via your Patient Portal to send to your health fund for rebate applications, if you are eligible.

Yes, we offer telehealth consulations via Zoom, an easy-to-use video conferencing platform for consultations. Before your consultation, you will need to download the Zoom app. When you attend your consultation, please ensure you are in a quiet room with minimal distractions.

Your Patient Portal will allow you to:

  • Input or check your registration details on first login
  • Check your appointment details and confirm your appointment
  • Access documentations such as invoices and quotes
  • Have access to letters written by Dr Huang during your care
  • Have access to documents scanned into your file
  • Upload your referrals and reports via your phone camera or scanner directly into your files
  • Access to your pathology and radiological results
  • Enter and store your credit card details securely in your Patient Portal (via Stripe online payment system) for your convenience
